The Issue with Equity (As Defined by the Left)

The left would have you believe that unless all humans start off on a level playing field, then outcomes will not be equal. They push this idea to describe white privilege and systemic racism. I believe in equality. That is to say equal opportunity. However, I do not believe that it is the government's job to make sure that I start off on the same level as my neighbor. The issue with their version of equity is that it looks a lot like socialism. Since my wife and I, being one entity, have made a successful life for ourselves, we must be privileged, and that privilege must be stripped and spread to those less privileged than us. This is socialism. The other argument that they will make will be that the systems in place are inherently racist and thus we got ahead because we are white, and thus equal opportunity wasn't achievable.
